Thinking ahead to Christmas, Tim’s planting his Brussels ready for the festive season.
On his organic allotment Mike Thurlow has been busy, the ground has already been dug over as part of his preparations for the summer. The first hard frosts have sweetened the parsnips and Brussels sprouts, whilst the winter cabbage and kale can be harvested as needed.
Market gardener Andrew McTurk has been explaining to Ken Crowther how they make their decisions on what to grow for the following year. One crop they will definitely be growing in 2015 is Brussels sprouts which did very well in the two weeks running up to Christmas.
There’s not much happening on Andrew Tokely’s vegetable plot, and what’s left is starting to look a bit tired. There are still crops in the ground including parsnips, carrots and brussels sprouts for Christmas, but it’s the time of the year when the plot needs a good clean-up.
