Anton Thurgood, farm commercial manager from Wilkin & Son, is preparing the tunnels ready for the new growing season.

A water guttering system has been installed under the table top strawberry growing beds to collect any wastage.

Around half a million strawberry plants start arriving ready for planting next month.

Little Scarlet is synonymous with the Tiptree jam brand and it is included in the James Bond novels as the spy’s favourite breakfast.

Ken talks to farms director, Chris Newenham about wildlife on farms and how Wilkin & Sons Ltd is farming sustainably.

Mick Lavelle, senior lecturer in landscape management at Anglia Ruskin University, Writtle Campus looks at food production efficiency in agriculture and horticulture.

Rhubarb is growing in the fields and has been covered with straw. Chris Newenham says the season in Tiptree is generally pulled from April to August. The crop is used in jam making paired with ginger and vanilla.

Tiptree jams and preserves can be purchased widely from supermarkets or direct online by clicking here.
