There’s a lot of enthusiasm for growing spuds which is partly down to gardeners being encouraged to grow them not just in the ground but in bags and containers on patios and balconies as Thompson & Morgan’s veg man Colin Randall told Ken Crowther.
It’s a really important time in the potato world, as you need to get in early if you want to grow some of the rarer varieties as some are in short supply. One of the biggest problems with growing potatoes is blight, work is on going to find blight resistant varieties as Colin Randall, or spud, from Thompson and Morgan told Ken Crowther.
Ipswich based seed and plant merchants, Thompson and Morgan introduce the tom tato, a plant which grows tomatoes and potatoes last year. Michael Perry told Ken Crowther how they produced the plant with a clever grafting technique.
