Q: I wonder if you could help me. The leaves on my rowan tree are shrivelling up and I noticed a number of bees and wasps in the tree. On further investigation the tree is infested by some kind on insect larvea and the undersides of the leaves are curled round very large amounts of these. I have removed some of the more heavily infested branches and am now looking to spray with insectiside – can you please recommend what I should use as I really do not want to lose the tree – it is so pretty. Many many thanks for any help you can give. Margaret
A: I would give the rowan tree a spray with Provado or BugClearUltra, of course when the tree is very large this can be problematic to get to the leaves. Spray the leaf underneath as well as the top. As both these sprays are systemic the chemical is absorbed by the tree which in turn kills the insect when they suck the sap. It will need a couple of sprays to have any effect, read the instructions as to how long to leave between sprays.
