Q: I have a few stems of japanese knotweed growing out of a hedge at a family house in Kent. I intend to treat with glycosphate/roundup. When it dies down I will burn residue on site. Any regrowth will be treated same way. Do you advise this method? I have been astonished by professional quotes of around 3k. David
A: You are quite right, as it emerges you are best to cut off the stem at about 6 inches and put Glyphosate down the hollow stem of the knotweed. It will not go away quickly and in fact could take you several years to eradicate. Don’t give up, but it will keep emerging in different places along your hedge so keep a close eye out for it and treat quickly.
