Here are some suggestions of strawberry plant varieties to look out for to extend your picking season to more than just June and July.

Early varieties are likely to need protection under glass or plastic in the UK. But varieties like, Honeoye or Royal Sovereign, could produce fruit as early as April, especially with heating.

Mid-season varieties, such as Cambridge Favourite, Sonata and Malling Centenary, all three are grown by Wilkin and Sons at Tiptree and these varieties produce large cropping yields for the main season of June and July.

Late varieties, such as Florence can edge the strawberry picking season a little later than Wimbledon fortnight. One to watch is Red Gauntlet as it often has a second crop in the autumn.
