Jobs in the garden for September
Ken offers some advice on what to do in the garden this month and suggests planting autumn flowering bulbs, such as saffron crocus. There is also plenty still to be doing in the vegetable patch.
Ken says:
Autumn flowering bulbs are often something that’s forgotten about as the crocus corms need to be planted during August. This can be tough with soil conditions being dry and hard, but the colour and results are fabulous.

Many of us use hardwood oak sleepers in the garden. Maybe it’s to edge a lawn, create a retaining wall, or maybe build a raised bed.
At some point, you’ll notice fungus appear on the wood surface and you might be wondering what’s happening. It’s a natural process, and there’s very little you can do other than maybe enjoy the beauty of nature.
Back in July, Ken showed you an example of why you shouldn’t lay turf in hot weather – well, not unless you’re going to ensure that it’s properly watered.
Well, the customer that lawn belongs to went back to the contractor that laid the turf and was reassured: “Don’t worry, it’ll come back.”
Looking as sad as ever, this lawn really is beyond repair.
