Adrian Scamp from Scamp’s Daffodils, in Cornwall, has been involved in growing bulbs for 35 years.
Given the right situation, [Daffodil bulbs] will go on for years… If you want to grow something in your garden and you’re new to gardening, – a daffodil is probably one of the easiest things, says Adrian.
He says it can take between 15 and 20 years for a new variety of daffodil bulb to be introduced and this includes RHS approval and identification as a new flower. Scamp’s bulbs grow around 1500 different varieties of daffodils.

Cornwall is further south and climate helps to produce blooms on daffodils earlier than elsewhere in the UK. This traditionally has been of benefit to the cut flower market and allowed Cornwall to use the railways to supply flower markets throughout Victorian Britain.
