Ken Crowther has returned to Wilkin & Sons at Tiptree where he met Farm Manager Andrey Ivanov on the fruit farm in the new growing area. The state of the art poly tunnel is currently being used to grow this season’s strawberries using a revolutionary new system which is the first in the UK.
Ken Crowther has been back to the fruit farms of Wilkin and Sons in Tiptree as he tries to escape the frost and cold. He met up with Andre at the new growing system the company has been installing over the last year. Andre explained to Ken how the poly tunnel will work in the future.
The strawberry season may well be over for now at Wilkin & Sons farm in Tiptree, but the raspberries are well and truly in flavour. Ken Crowther caught up with farm manager Andre to try some of the crop.
This year has seen a good crop of cherries at Wilkin & Sons farm at Tiptree. Andre, the farm manager explained they need to keep cover the cherries under cover in the summer in case of rain. Given the volumes of rain the UK has experienced over the last few months they are so pleased they have used them as he told Ken Crowther.
As spring approaches there is a season of hard work ahead. Bayer Garden’s Anita Dent and Ken Crowther caught up in the strawberry patch. This quintessential summer fruit is easy to grow in beds, however if you don’t have space you can take advantage of hanging baskets, containers and even drain pipes.
