Geoff Hodge and Ken Crowther discuss the spring flowering bulbs that are available and need to planted around this time of year.
Now in their 68 year, the Dutch bulb fields at Keukenhof attract millions of visitors. The 32 hectares bulb fields are a sight to behold with more seven million bulbs planted and 800 varieties of tulips.
Ken Crowther met up with Director of Keukenhof, Bart Siemerink to find out how it all started.
It’s a great time to start thinking about summer flowering bulbs which will inject a bit of colour to the summer garden. From dahlia’s to canna lilies they will brighten up a border and give a great perfume too, as Ken Crowther and Geoff discussed in the World Radio Gardening Studio.
Well known dahlia grower Dave Gilham has diversified and has taken up growing daffodils. For the past three years he’s been growing the garden bulbs and last year won a National Trophy class in 2016 with 12 flowers. He will be trying to win again this year as he told Ken Crowther.
